How do you handle it when things go sideways?

Most leaders, and especially owners, would say it's important to stay positive, confident, and in control of the situation. Like you always know exactly what to do.

That sounds great. One thing I've learned in those roles is that we don't always know what to do. A lot of the time we're making it up as we go, just like anyone else.

What people need in difficult situations is honesty. If they think everything is fine, they'll act like it, and let's be honest, you need their help. If you're straight about a bad situation, show them a plan, and tell them exactly how they can contribute, they will step up and be part of the solution. They may even make your plan better.

Trust your people. Everything doesn't always have to rest on your shoulders.
